Freedom - Jonathan Franzen This book may not live up to the hype, but the hype doesn't do the book justice. It's a very good novel with amusing characters and an interesting plot. I did not identify with every articulation and I did not necessarily think Franzen had nailed consciousness in our time with absolute aplomb, but the novel did what novels are supposed to do: I felt something, including hope. I laughed. Although I did not cry, I did reflect wistfully...

Lots of novelists deserve a cover article in Time magazine - I'm not going to hold it against him. I will definitely read another Franzen novel.
